A longitudinal investigation in partnership with the education advocacy group EdVestors to examine arts course-taking impacts on student engagement and school climate for students enrolled in Boston Public Schools using student-level administrative and school-level survey data over an eleven year timeframe. In this study we use 496,236 student-level observations, enrolled in 169 traditional public schools, to investigate within-student and -school variations in arts education course-taking over time and its impacts on students’ school engagement, school climate, and standardized English language arts and math achievement.
